NAMI Athens has Family Support Group
meetings on the 6:00 every first and third Thursday of the month
at ABH Hospital (100 Hospital Dr., Athens, OH ) . Meetings are
open to family members only.
Through the support group, families learn to accept and cope
with their relative's conditions. Participants share experiences
in dealing with different behaviors and can discuss with peers
the many challenging aspects that brain disorders can present.
Meetings are confidential and families are able to speak openly
without worrying about the stigma of mental illness found elsewhere
in society. They express feelings of guilt, fear and denial in
a safe environment. They can offer suggestions, hope and encouragement
to each other. Families bond when they realize they are not alone
in this. come and find answers and encouragement with other families.
