One of the most important ingredients in recovery from major mental illness is access to quality housing. Given that reality, NAMI Athens is cooperating with Habitat for Humanity, NAMI Ohio, the 317 Board, Ohio University, and the Federal Home Loan Bank to begin constructing housing for individuals with mental illness. Ground breaking for the first Habitat/NAMI house took place in March 2006. (See Athens Messenger Article.) The project was completed that June. It is expected that this was only the first such dwelling to be erected in our area.
